Dave Grohl and the boys kick off their month long stint by stating their mutal love for all things Led Zeppelin alongside tracks from Janes Addiction, The National, The Clash, Brooklyn's finest The Beastie Boys and much more.
Its the very last Xfm Residency show from Editors, but Tom, Ed, Russell and Chris see us off in grand style with tracks and chat from Kings of Leon ("One of the best albums of the year"), Queens Of The Stone Age, Modest Mouse, Radiohead The Cure, Richard Hell and The Voidoids, The Hold Steady and some utterly lovely Tom Waits (as they say) many, many more...
In the second of their Residency shows Editors bring your tracks and chats on Super Furry Animals (to "give you the horn" apparently), Pet Shop Boys, Bob Dylan classic’s ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’ covered by The Walkmen, a “slice of brilliant” Blur, Justice, Peter Gabriel, Snowdon, a bit more Mark Lanagean, PJ Harvey and (cast your mind back now) Terris. Plus a brilliantly shameless plug for Editors’ last album 'An End Has A Start'. Excellent.
The penultimate Editors residency includes tracks by singer Tom’s "favourite band of all time” R.E.M. (who aren’t Australian and the band discover) plus brand new songs by The Presets, and Digitalism, classics from Nirvana, Bjork, Talk Talk and Depeche Mode (live no less), as well as current favs from At The Drive In, Matthew Dear and more.
Xfm were proud to host Russell, Chris, Ed and Tom from Editors who took their places behind the studio desk for their Residency. Podcast one is split between music made by their heroes like Bruce Springsteen, New Order (or at least a terrible intro from a great New Order song), The Lemonheads and The Screaming Trees. Or alternatively you can hear the band discussing tracks by their celebrity music friends like Archie Bronson Outfit, Biffy Clyro (“the best British rock band in the world at the moment”), Boom Bip and We Are Scientists. Either way, it’s a good listen.
In his final Residency Mr Frank Black talks at length about his hero Bob Dylan and why The Fall are one of his biggest influences and favourite bands.
This week Frank choses his most varied set and you can expect to hear him waxing lyrical Elliott Smith, The Hold Steady, Moby, The Libertines and Bryan Ferry's sublime cover of Bob Dylan.
For his third week Frank picks some fantastic tunes with the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Blur, Grandaddy and Ryan Adams all featuring. Plus it's the only time you'll ever hear "that was Justin Timberlake now here's Art Brut".
More Frank Black action as the former Pixies frontman steps up for the second week of his Xfm Residency. For your information, in this week’s podcast Frank uses the words “Shindig”, “Mellifluous”, “Matriculated” and “Wotnot”, he plays music from Good The Bad And The Queen, Iggy Pop, Howling Wolf, Sugar and The Breeders, and he discusses listening to Thom Yorke naked.
We were honoured to have Mr Frank Black Francis discuss some of his favourite records with us on the first of his Residency shows on Xfm. Here you’ll find out about his love of Eliot Smith, Roxy Music’s slick grooves, Seu Jorge’s Bowie covers and his complete and utter obsession with The Good The Bad And The Queen (he bumped into TGTBATQ producer Dangermouse while bird watching in a field in Australia doncha know) there’s also the matter of a very, very, very, very long Neil Young & Crazy Horse tune. As Frank says “Don't suck. Be cool. Listen”
The very last Hard Fi Residency features a little bit of politics from Bob Dylan and Nina Simone, something of a Soul Revue in the form of Barbara Mills, Otis Reading plus Toots and The Maytalls. There’s some old Hard Fi and some brand new Hard Fi, Bowie, The Who and finally, finally after promising since week one, Steve from the band finally drops the musical bomb... And what a bomb it is.
Week three of Hard Fi’s Residency features a splendid mix of proper rarities, classics and new tunes including The Modern Lovers (“Roadrunner! Roadrunner!”) Stirling Void (Bring the rave! Reach for the lasers!) The Smiths (“I would go out tonight…”). Japan (*plink plonk plink*), not one, but two heart warming chunks of Hard Fi and some Lee Scratch Perry, where you get to hear Ross from the band’s stunning lion impression)
Here's another chance to hear Hard-Fi talk their way though their record collections as they chuck out tunes (and chat) from (and about) Rage Against The Machine, Blur, Dead Kennedys, The Television Personalities, Jay Z and Ronnie Lane. Plus there’s some classic tracks from Prince The Rolling Stones and David Bowie, alongside a gorgeous (and topical) track by Ann Peebles (which wasn’t produced by Grant Mitchell) and a little bit of brand new Hard Fi.
The first Residency from Hard Fi manages to take in a plethora of musical styles including soul (The Supremes), reggae (Smiley Culture), blues (The White Stripes), pop (Blondie), country and western (Johnny Cash) and punk (The Clash) as well as a an awful Tim Westwood impression and a discussion about the average price of a decent second-hand, mid '80s Ford Cortina. Obviously.
This week’s Residency Podcast finds Gary ‘Kermit the Frog’ Lightbody in a thoughtful, reflective mood, and he tossed out top tunes by Cold War Kids, Willy Mason, Alexi Murdoch, The National, Arthur Russell, AC Newman, Republic Of Loose, a classic from The Beach Boys and a tune from former Snow Patrol member Ian Acher (who, according to your host, wrote the best song ever written about Belfast) and Gary gets a little feedback from the listeners... Not all of it positive.
In this weeks highly eclectic final residency from Gary he spans the years with choices that include Deehoof, The Animals, Modest Mouse, Gruff Rhys, a wonderful tune from Nina Simone and of course The Undertones.
This week Gary Lightbody turns his attentions and affections toward some more of his favourite music including Arcade Fire, Field Music, Grizzly Bear, yourcodenameismilo: AC/DC, Bat For Lashes (who - as we find out - isn't as much of a fan of Gary’s music as he is of her;s) and no Snow Patrol. Whatsoever. At all.
We're very proud to have Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol on the next Residency, and we're even prouder to say that as well as being a fine singer, he's also a rather superb host with a remarkably good - and diverse - taste in music. In this show you'll hear Gary chatting and playing tracks from The Bronx, Bloodthirsty Lovers, Joan As Policewoman, LCD Soundsystem, Wheat and Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Top stuff.
This week Kaiser Chiefs offer up some more of their favourite tunes from The Rakes, Good Shoes, Dr Dre, LCD Soundsystem as well as the return of the legendary Cribs Section of the show, an apology to The Cold War Kids and a discussion about Arctic Monkeys Brainstorm. Or is it Branson? Or Bryianstrom?
Kaiser Chiefs final residency sees the boys pick CSS, Dinosaur Jnr, Depeche Mode, a classic live Happy Mondays track from back in the day (not that the band were there that day) the last ever Cribs section (shed a tear) a frankly confusing game of Blankety Blank and the mighty AC/DC.
All of the Kaiser Chiefs came into Xfm to present their very own Residency show, featured this week are Brakes, Gruff Ryhs and The Charlatans. For the whole tracklisting, go to www.xfm.co.uk/theresidency.
Every single one of Kaiser Chiefs came into Xfm to present their very first Residency show, and the band talked us through their choices including vintage Smashing Pumpkins, 1990s, a plea to start the 80s Matchbox B-Line Disaster revival, a track from Ash (there's an interesting story attached to that one) plus their very good Leeds-based buddies, Back Wire and (of course) The Cribs - who get their own section of the podcast. For the whole tracklisting, go to www.xfm.co.uk/theresidency.
The final Xfm Residency from Manic Street Preachers includes tracks from The View, Dexy's Midnight Runners, New York Dolls, Klaxxons and, of course, James and Nicky's beloved Guns N Roses. For the whole tracklisting, go to www.xfm.co.uk/theresidency.

For the whole tracklisting, go to www.xfm.co.uk/theresidency.
